New Rules in ICC: Captains can refer to Third Umpire!

ICC has accepted and is implemented the new rule in the test series between India and Sri Lanka. If this works well, it would be implemented as a permanent rule.

Under the new system each side will be allowed three challenges in each innings and the number of challenges remains intact if a decision is reversed using the system.

This should reduce the umpiring errors to some extent.

What is best for the game is what looked at. "The umpires making mistakes and being accused of cheating, teams threatening to leave the country and flying home and boards criticising the umpires? Or a system where the umpire is given an opportunity to review his own decision and make a final decision himself?" Richardson asked.

There will be 22 cameras for monitoring at the Sinhala Sports Club here to assist in facilitating the decision-making process and for first time 'Virtual Eye' system will be used for line decisions for reviewing leg before decisions, said Richardson, ICC GM.

Asia Cup, FINAL: Jayasuriya and Mendis Help Sri Lanka win Final!

Sri Lanka havae won the Asia Cup for the for the first time outside Sri Lanka. Though Sri Lanka was losing wickets at regular intervals, it did not stop Jayasuriya from playing his regular shots. His less than a ball century helped Sri Lanka to put a winning total on the board. Struggling at 66 for 4, Jayasuriya and Dilshan (56) added 131 for the 4th wicket in 141 balls. Jayasuriya scored 125 off 114 balls with 9 fours and 5 sixes. He punished all the fast bowlers--RP Singh, Ishanth Sharma, and Pathan. All of them were hammered by Jayasuriya.

Indian batting meekly surrendered to the bowling of Sri Lankans especially Mendis. Later in the press conference, Dhoni admitted that no batsman was able to read Mendis. Having chased 309 in their last encounter, the target of 274 seemed easy in this kind of wicket.

The start was good with 36 in the first 5 overs. Gambhir got out for 6 in the 5th over. Sehwag was the culprit for the fall of the Indian innings. He was playing Mendis for the first time and bowling his first over.

He stepped out for the first two balls and was not successful. He should have waited and played sensibly. He came out for the third time and got stumped way out of the crease and that is stupid cricket. Well, one can argue that if he hits for runs we appreciate, but still I would say that is an early stage for hitting and it is a final. Everyone has a role to play, especially understaning their responsibilities. He was the first wicket of Mendis and gave all the confidence to him.

Yuvaraj Singh, still in the party mood, did not read the straight faster one and went for back foot. It was too late and the ball hit the stumps. Raina trying to pull a short ball was also bowled. Dhoni stayed and played a fighting innings but was not useful as the wickets were falling at the other end. Mendis picked 6 wickets giving away 13 runs in his 8 overs and was declared both man of the match and series.

Alok Kapali, who made a come back after almost two-and-a-half years, fought the Indian bowling attack and scored a brilliant century. His century gave Bangladesh a hope of fighting back after suffering at 169 for 5 in 35 overs. His 116 came off 107 balls with 11 fours and 5 sixes. He along with Mahmudullah added 112 for the 6th wicket in 87 balls.

Chasing 284, Rain once again scored a wonderful century. He along with Gambhir added 139 for the 3rd wicket which took away the match from Bangladesh. Struggling at 56 for 2 in the 10th over, they both played sensibly and built the partnership going. Raina was unstoppable and bagged his 3rd consecutive man of the match for his firing 116 off 107 balls which included 11 fours and 3 boundaries. Gambhir missed his century by 10 runs. His 90 came off 84 balls including 10 fours and a six.

4th ODI: Australia win the last over Thriller by 1 run!

Michael Clarke held is nerve and chose his bowlers very well in the thirlling 1 run victory against West Indies and to take 4-0 lead in the 5 match ODI Series.

West Indies needed 28 in the last five overs. With experienced Chandrapaul in the crease and 6 wickets in hand, any team would have won it, in fact, West Indies would have won it 9 out of 10 times.

Lee's over costed 6 and Hopes next over added 9 to the total. Findlayhit a huge six over long on and that reduced the tension in the West Indies camp.

Lee got Findlay caught brilliantly by Michael Hussey bowled and more importantly gave away just 1 run.

Last two overs 12 runs, 5 wickets in hand. Bracken bowled the penultimate over and had Chanderpaul clean bowled through a slow off cutter in the last ball. West Indies scored 4 runs in that over.

Last over, 8 runs needed, 4 wickets in hand. Shane Watson gave single in all the ball. The last ball required 3 runs and they scored a single of the last ball.

The surprise was that no one tried to slog it because they had the wicket anyway. They didn't take the risk and lost the match in hand.

In the presentation ceremony, Gayle said, "We thought we could have got it. I should have carried on and saw the team home. The support was very good. I apologise for the loss."

Clarke said, "Ricky can get it [captaincy] back! The guys did a fantastic job. Gayle played really well but full credit to the guys who hung in there. Every body who gets a chance to play to Australia love it and cherish it."

Kumble Supports Dhoni!

Indian Test Skipper Anil Kumble has come out openly and supported the ODI captain Dhoni's view that back-to-back matches are not good for players. The back-to-back game will definitely take a toll on players' bodies.

It's never easy to play back-to-back one-day games," Kumble told reporters when his reaction was sought on Dhoni's comments.

"I have done that it my (one-day) career. It's quite tough and demanding on the players", he said on the last day of a week-long camp here for Test specialists as part of the preparations for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour.
