5th ODI: Sri Lanka gets Consolation Win! Beat India by 112 runs!

Finally Sri Lanka have won the last ODI and restored the pride! Sri Lanka scored 227 in the 50 overs. I would say that India missed a chance of making it 4-1. They were struggling at 104 for 5 with skipper Jayawardane also gone. When Kapugedera got out in the 37th over, they were 133 for 6. Mubarak (47 not out) and Thushara (54 not out) added 93 runs of for the 7th wicket which never fell. They scored this 93 in the last 13 overs, which I would say, a poor and lethargic captaincy by Dhoni.

Was the match already decided even before the start that SL should win? What was going on in Dhoni's mind? It was okay to given chance to less experienced players, but not literally giving away the match.

How did Raina got out with a stupid shot especially after playing a superb and responsible innnings in the preivous match? He knows that it will rain and in fact, it has started raining. Why would anyone go against the bowler?

With rain intervening at the 15th over and India were 70 for 3, the target was revised to 216 from 44 overs. When play resumed, India needed 146 in 29.4 overs. Dhoni played a wrong line and lost his stumps.

4th ODI: Rain Post-pones match to Next Day!

Rain in Columbo forced the match to be shifted to next day. The heavy rain before the start of the game and the previous night prevented the game on the scheduled date. The umpires called off the game after waiting for the stipulated time and rescheduled the game for the next day.

India is leading the series 2-1. If rain prevents the next day's game, then there is no chance that India could lose the series. Either it could be levelled at 2-2 or India win the series 3-1.

3rd Test: Sri Lanka beats India, win series!!

What was a great chance to win the series, India really messed it up, especially after winning the toss. The first wicket partnership was 51 when Sehwag was dismissed for 21. Dravid (10) and Tendulakar (4) followed him. Ganguly made 35 and Laxman made 25.

Mendis, the demolition man picked 5 wickets and Murali picked 3. India were bundeled out for 249.

India had the game in hand by restricting Sri Lanka to less than 300. India picked 4 wickets with 141 on the board. The 5th wicket added 60 (between Sangakkara and Samaraveera). Sangakkara made 144 and took the total beyond 300. The 80-run stand for the 8th wicket between Sangakkar and HAPW Jayawardane helped Sri Lanka to have a lead of more than 100 runs.

The pathetic captaincy and bowling gave Sri Lanka a lead of 147 runs. India could have gone past that and added a big score in the 2nd innings, but the Indian batting failed once again. Dravid made a fighting 68 and Laxman 61 not out. It was expected that Dravid and Laxman pair would put another historic partnership, but they were not able to.

Spinners Muralitharan and Mendis pikced 3 wickets each as India was all out for 268 setting a target of 122 runs.

Sri Lanka chased 123 losing 2 wickets for 22 runs, but once again Kumble did not put enough pressure on the batsman as skipper Jayawardane (50 not out) and Warnapura (54 not out) took Sri Lankan the series victory.

2nd Test: India Equal the Series! Sehwag and Bhajji did the Trick!

Trailing 0-1 in the test series against the hosts Sri Lanka, India pulled off a sensational win in the 2nd test to equal the series. Sehwag and Gambhir laid the foundation through the first wicket partnership in the first innings, handling both Mendis and Muralitharan.

Sehwag scored a wonderful double century and helped India to put a decent total on the board. Without his double century, India would have struggled to cross 200.

The famous four once again failed miserably. Dravid out for 2 to Mendis, Sachin got out for 5, Ganguly for a duck, and Laxman for 39. India were 167 for no loss and lost Gambhir for 56. From 167 for 1, India slumpped to 178 for 4. Mendis picked 6 wickets.

Good bowling by Harbhajan Singh helped India to gain 37 runs lead in the first innings. He took 6 wickets, dismissing top order batsmen. Warnapura, Sangakkara and Skipper Jayawardane crossed 50.

Having a good chance in the match, India did not utilized it well in the 2nd innings. India had all the time in the world to score more runs in the 2nd innings which started on Day 3. Gambhir and Sehwag once again gave a good start to India, but India was dismissed for 269.

Chasing 307, Sri Lanka lost the first three wickets including skipper Jayawardane with 10 on the board. Ishanth picked 2 wickets and Zaheer picked 1. At lunch on Day 4, Sri Lanka were 24 for 3. Samaraweera provided some resistence and scored 68 not out. He along with Dilshan added 76 for the 5th wicket. There was a little threat, but once that partnership was broken by Ishanth Sharma, the remaining 5 wickets fell for 23 runs in 11.4 overs. Though Bhajji picked 10 wickets in the match, Sehwag's 201 not out in first innings and 50 in the 2nd innings won him the man of the match award.

1st Test: Sri Lanka beat India in 1st Test

The Indian batting failed one more time and they succumbed to the spin attack of Muralitharan and Mendis. All the famous four fell apart and no one was able to attack or handle Mendis. India miserably failed in the test and lost it by an innings and 239 runs. Isn't it a huge margin and big loss for India?

Mendis Demolish Continued in Test Series!

The man of the series man Mendis demolished the Indian batting and their confidence. It all started in the Asia Cup final where India was beaten comfortably. His wicket taking ability has improved over time and that showed in the 3 test match series.

Records:

1. He become the highest wicket taker in a 3 test match series for Sri Lanka surpassing Muraitharan;
2. In a test debut series, he is the highest wicket taker in the 3 test match series;
3. He took 5 wickets in an innings twice;
4. He took 10 wickets in a match once;

Though he demonstrated his bowling skills against India and he was on top followed by the Indian batsmen, we have to see the consistency in performance and skills in future series.

He dismissed Laxman 5 times, Dravid 4 times and then Gambhir 3 times. He also dismissed Tendular once in the last innings of the series--his ambition.

Well done Mendis!

England Wins Final Test, Consolation Win, Retains some pride!

The first time skipper of England Kevin Pietersen has tasted victory in his test captaincy debut. He has also joined the club of batsman who have scored century in their test captaincy debut.

Winning the toss and batting first, South Africa were bundled out for 194. With such a good show in the previous two tests, it was tough to believe that they were bowled out for less than 200 especially in the last test. All the bowlers delivered for England and provided an opportunity for England to put a huge total on the board.

Though England got past the total, but the lead was not as big as they would have planned. Except skipper Pietersen's century and Collingwood's 61, they would have struggled to go beyond 200. Nitni sent 5 of the England batsmen to the pavilion.

Trailing by 122 runs in the 2nd innings, South Africa made just 318, not enough to restrict England. DeVilliers scored 97 and gave SA bowlers a chance to go against England.

Chasing 197 on the last day, they reached the target with 6 wickets in hand. Strauss and Cook added 123 for the first wicket. They ensured that they didn't lose their wicket in the first session.

Cook fell in the 3rd over after lunch for 67. Bell was beautifully bowled by Nitni for 4. He shuffled acorss for a ball that pitched on the middle and swung in. He tried to flick it, but missed the line and his leg stump was uprooted.

Strauss fell two balls later for 58. Three quick wickets put England under pressure at 147 for 3. The skipper fell for 13 when they were 15 runs away from victory.

Collingwod and Flintoff completed the formalities with the latter scoring the winning shot with a six over bowlers head.

Pietersen declared man of the match. He also shared the man of the series with counter part Smith.

Sri Lanka beat India 2-1 and win Idea Cup!

Sri Lanka beat India in the 3rd Test by 8 wickets and won the series and Idea Cup. Chasing a target of 122 with more than 1.5 days of game in hand, Sri Lanka was in no hurry chasing this moderate target.

Though they lost the opener to Harbhajan Sing, who was given the new ball in the 2nd of over of the innings, a surprise move by Kumble, skipper Jayawardane scored a timely half-century and helped Sri Lanka reach the target without any trouble or danger.

With Sachin returning home due to injury, the young team to be lead once again by Dhoni should prove and outplay Sri Lanka to bring back the lost pride!

Tendular Injured! Out of ODI Series!

The master batsman Sachin Tendulkar injured his left hand while trying to catch at backward short leg. The incident happened on the 3rd day of the 3rd Test against Sri Lanka.

He did not score big runs and help India during the crucial time! India lost the series 2-1, where his century could have helped.

He also missed to become the highest run getter in the test history. All he needed was 172 runs in 3 test matche, but he scored less than 100 runs in 6 innings--a very unusual Tendulkar!

I think the media has to raise the question of his retirement / form once again, so that he start scoring runs. Everytime somebody brings this question, he neglects them saying he is enjoying is cricket and scores runs immediatley. It is time that he helps India one more time like he did in the past.

With this injury, he is out of the ODI team for the five ODI against Sri Lanka. It is not of a great concern now as Sehwag and Gamhir are performing well.

But, we always need the Greatest batsman of world cricket back in the game soon. Wishing you speedy recovery!

Tendulkar to Act in Big Screen!

Sachin Tendulkar, though made his debut in Cricket at the aga of 17, is making his debut in the big screen towards the end of his career. He will be acting in a Marathi movie "Vighnaharta Siddhivinayak."

Though the movie is about the miracles of the Lord Ganesha, I would rather call it a social than a mythological film. I want the movie to convey a social message of friendship and have it conveyed through the easily-recognised icon, Sachin Tendulkar," Rajiv Singhvi, movie's producer, told IANS.

Several movie stars are expected to give a guest appearance giving a social message. It is expected that Amitab Bachan will give the voice for the movie.

Tendular has experience in acting ads and is an ambassador for several products. His first time experience in big screen has to wait and seen. Good luck, Sachin!
