The September scheduled ICC Champion's Trophy groups were announced today. This will be held in Pakistan this year and everyone expects that all the teams will participate in this tournament including Australia.
In 2005 it was decided that only the top 8 teams in the ranking will play in 2 groups. The teams listed below 8 will not qualify! This year, Bangladesh, Ireland and Zimbabwe lose out because they are not in the top 8. The teams that occupied the top 8 positions are Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, England and West Indies.
These 8 teams were divived into two groups and each team will get an opportunity to play the other team in the league stage. The top two teams from each group will play semi-finals and the winners of semi-finals will play in the final.
The detailed schedule with venue will be announced in the next few days. The group:
Group A: Australia (1), India (4), Pakistan (5), and West Indies (8)
Group B: South Africa (2), New Zealand (3), Sri Lanka (6), and England (7)
