ICC Awards for 2009 Presented!

ICC 2009 Awards Winners

The ICC Awards for the year 2009 presented at Johannesburg on Thursday night. Dhoni, Indian skipper once again missed the function, though no reasons were shared.

Gautam Gambhir won the Test Cricketer of the Year Award while Dhoni bagged the same for ODI format. Gambhir beat his own team mate and skipper Dhoni to clinch this award.

Dhoni beat off tough competition from teammates Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag as well as West Indies' Shivnarine Chanderpaul to take the prestigious award.

Dhoni was also named the captain of the ICC's Test and ODI Team.

Sri Lankan dashing opener Tilakerethne Dilshan bagged the T20 Player of the Year award.

Australian Michele Johnson bagged the prestigeous Player of the Award. He was a good wicket taking bolwer and has a very good economy and average. He also played an useful all rounder role in the Champions Trophy match against West Indies.

Peter Siddle, another Australian, won the award for Emerging Player of the Year.

The New Zealand team bagged the Spirit of the Cricket Award. This is the second time that NZ has won this award.

Claire Taylor from England was named the Women's Cricketer of the Year, while Irishman William Porterfield was selected as the Associate and Affiliate Player of the Year.

ODI Player of the Year: MS Dhoni off India
T20 Player of the Year: T Dilshan off Sri Lanka
Emerging Player of the Year: P Siddle off Australia
Women Cricketer of the Year: Claire Taylor off England
Associate and Affiliate Player of the Year: William Porterfield off Ireland
Spirit of the Cricket: New Zealand
Umpire of the Year: Aleem Dhar off Pakistan
