New Zealand won the firs test though they were in an uncomfortable position in the first innings. Skipper Daniel Vettori lead from the front and turning the match in kiwis way. He scored 55 not out in the first innings and scored 76 crucial runs in the 2nd innings which helped NZ to win the test by 3 wickets.
Bangladesh had a good chance of winning the first test, but would say that they missed it. Though skipper Ashraful tried different bowling changes, it didn't work and they didn't put enough pressure on the batsman. With the lead of 74 runs in the first innings, the start once again was poor. From 71 for 5, Musharaf Rahim and Hasan added 56 for the 6th wicket. The top order batting did not add value to Bangladesh in both the innings.
I would say the match was in favor of Bangladesh when the Kiwis started chasing 317. The bowlers didn't apply much pressure and Vettori promoted himself up in the order to rescue NZ from 145 for 2. In a span of 11 runs, they lost 3 wickets to add pressure to themselves. Flynn added valuable 49 to give NZ the victory path without much trouble in the end.
Vettori was decalred man of the match.
