CT 09: Match 3: SA v. NZ: Parnell and de Villers win Crucial Match for Proteas!

In a must win match for South Africa, Parnell helped his team by bagging 5 of the Kiwis wicket which restricted them to 214.

Smith defined the loss against Sri Lanka in the earlier match as a wake-up call as the entire team felt that they are the best. The defeat in the opening match of the CT has warned them against any complacency.

Taylor's fighting 72 gave Kiwis a decent total on the board. Chasing 215, Smith went early for 7. Amla and Kallis added 52 for 2nd wicket but it was AB de Villiers who showed his class through his responsible innings of unbeatn 70. This fetched them the crucial 2 points and has retained them in the competition.

Compaq Cup: Match 2: Ind v. NZ: Another Bowlers Dominated Match! Kiwis out of Competition!

Ashish Nehra man of the Match against New Zealand in Compaq Cup 2009
Kiwis lost their second league match and have lost their birth to the final. In their first match (NZ v. SL), they lost to Sri Lanka.

In a must win match to stay in the competition, Kiwis could not handle the bowling attack and were bundled out for 155.

Deciding to bat first, Brendon McCullum (3) and Ryder (0) were in the pavilion with the score on 4. The momentum was maintained by the Indian bowlers as they restricted NZ to 51 for 4 at the end of the second powerplay.

After the fall of Elliott (22) in the 21st over and Oram (24) in the 29th over, NZ never came back in the game. Nehra and Yuvaraj picked 3 wickets each while RP Singh and Ishanth picked 2 each.

Though Dinesh Karthik was dismissed early, the experienced campaigners Tendulkar and Dravid steadied the innings. They both added 60 for the 2nd wicket before Rahul was trapped LBW by Oram for 14. Tendulkar played patiently but missed half-century by 4 runs. Yuvaraj also did not stay long. Dhoni and Raina finished the formalities in the 41st over.

With this win, both India and Sri Lanka qualify for the final. The result of the last league match between these two teams has no impact for a place in the final.
