Put into Bat, SL were all out in less than 50 overs for 212. England picked the top order easily but could not get through the tail-enders. From 17 for 4, Samaraweera and Kandamby took the score to 81.
Kandamby and Mathews scored half-centuries and brought the Lankans back in the game. They both added 82 for the 6th wicket. The last wicket added 15 to the total and ended the innings at 212.
Anderson and Broad picked 3 wickets each, and Onion picked 2 wickets. But, it was Anderson's spell that changed the complexion of the game. He ended with 9.3-2-20-3
Though England started shakily, losing both the openers with just 19 on the board, Shah and Collingwood played sensibly realizing that they should not lose their wicket. They added 63 runs for the 3rd wicket before Collingwood was bowled by Malinga for 46.
Morgan utilized the opportunity to prove his worth and contributed with an unbeaten 62 in 83 balls which had 7 boundaries. Shah and Morgan handled Mendis very well and was not in hurry at all to play out his overs.
When Shah was out for 44, England were 158, needing just 55 in 91 balls. Morgan and Prior reached the final target without losing their wicket and gave England the crucial winning points.
