Australia has already bagged 2 points by beating West Indies and then a point against India in the no-reslt match. They are 2nd in the table preceeded by Pakistan with 4 points from 2 matches--beating West Indies and then India.
If Australia win against Pakistan, then they will qualify. If not, then India has a chance if they beat West Indies by a huge margin, overtaking Aussie net run rate.
In the rain affected match, considering the flat pitch condition, Ponting had no hesitation in deciding to bat first. Dhoni lost the toss in both the matches!
Watson, went for a duck once again. Trying to pull Nehra, the bounce hit the top of the bat and lobbed to Harbhajan in mid wicket.
Paine and Ponting added 84 for the 2nd wicket. Nehra provided the break through again with Paine giving a catch to Harbhajan.
Gambhir's pick and throw direct from deep mid-wicket sent skipper Ponting back to pavilion. Going for the 2nd run, Gambhir's throw hit the bowler's stump directly and Ponting was well short of his crease. Both Paine and Ponting scored half-centuries. Mr. Cricket scored 67 before chassing a little wide ball and giving a straight catch at long off to Tendulkar.
Two overs later, rain interuppted and play could not be resumed after that. Australia were cruising well at 234 for 4 in 42.3 overs. An uninterrupted match could have been a thriller as it was a do or die match for both the teams.
