Put into bat, Australia were bundled out for 176. Swann picked 5 wickets and it gave the home team a chance to stop the winning streak of the Aussies. Ponting made 53 but Mike Hussey missed half-century by a run.
Though Strauss and Denly started well and put 106 runs for the first wicket, the other batsmen could not survive and continue the momentum. From 106 for 1, England slumped to 162 for 6. England managed the win with 10 overs to spare and had 4 wickets in hand.
With this loss, Australia moved to 3rd position in the ODI ranking. South Africa leading the table followed by India in the 2nd position.
Strauss asked the team to show character just a day before the match. He said that his team should come back fighting and beat the Aussies in the final ODI to show their character. This win should definitely give them a lot of confidence to play in the Champions Trophy!
Craigh White off Australia was given man of the series while Swann from England picked the man of the match award.
